Spinaker "A. I. am here" in London

As part of this project, 4 training modules were planned (A-D). They were addressed to academic teachers, i.e. developing soft skills, developing knowledge about sustainable development in the context of economic policy at various levels, improving skills in simulation based on artificial intelligence, as well as training in advanced techniques of modelling and numerical simulations.

Module B provides training in English for all the teaching staff involved in the Project in the field of sustainable development in the context of contemporary political and economic conditions.

Between 6th and 8th June 2022, I took part in the training of teaching staff of the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology. A group from the faculties of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Architecture (FCEEA) and the Faculty of Management (FM) went to London as part of the project „Spinaker. A.I. am here PPI / SPI / 2020/1/00009”.

During these few days, the London School of Architecture (LSA) hosted us within its walls.

1. 6th May 2022 – On the first day, there were presentations and talks on topics related to architecture, sustainable construction and teaching methods.

  1. Neal Shasore, LSA Head of School & Samantha Hardingham, LSA Academic Director. On LSA Strategy 2022-24 and teaching & learning methods.
  2. Ada Nawrocka, assistant professor at Bydgoszcz University. New paradigm of urban design.
  3. Lara Kinneir, LSA Lab Director, educator and urban designer. Collaborative agendas for sustainable development in architecture and the built environment, specifically in relation to the acceleration of the United Nation’s new urban agenda.
  4. Lewis Kinneir, architect and educator. Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Skyroom, delivery of sustainable homes for key workers in London. Lewis is also the LSA’s Design Tectonics leader and will touch on the approach the LSA takes to teaching in this area.

Our group also visited the LSA building (6 Orsman Road) with architects Waugh Thistleton and reviewed the work of students from London.

2. 7th May 2022 – Fabrizio Matillana, Deputy Team Manager Design & Heritage, London Borough of Islington was speaking about the £6bn council led regeneration project in Meridian Water in Enfield, North London. Fabrizio was Principal Urban Designer, advising the local authority on design matters for Phase 1 and ensuring the delivery of its sustainable objectives and high quality place making. Later that day, we spent Tuesday at the London School of Architecture observing classes with students. We had the opportunity to talk with students, participate in classes and observe the forms of working on projects.

In the second part of the day, the teaching staff expanded their architectural, urban and historical experience by visiting the Museum of Home and many other inspiring buildings in London.

3. 8th May 2022 – On the last day, we visited the London School of Economics and Political Science.

We had the opportunity to see the building in terms of architecture, functionality and construction. From the terraces located on the roofs of the building, one could also admire the panorama of London.

The highlight of the day was a visit to the construction site of the ARBOR LSE1 (Bankside Yards) skyscrapers, arranged with Marcus Lee, architect and RSH+P. It was a very interesting experience both in terms of construction and architecture.
