Student Employment – Entering the Regional Labour Market: An Empirical Analysis in Poland and Georgia

Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to observe and describe student employment in Poland and in Georgia and fill the gaps in the literature.
Methodology – The study uses a structured and self-administered questionnaire over the Internet. Systematic sampling has been used. All the information to be collected is presented in an explicit and standardized way. The questionnaire is approved by the International Labor Organization and the National Statistics Office of Georgia.
Originality – This is one of the first attempts to analyze data from Poland and Georgia and focuses on a different scope. Authors believe that this paper will gain some attention from policymakers and can allow Governments to take actions.
Findings – The study shows us that the results of two different countries are not as far apart as it would have to be supposed.
Practical implications – The study can be used by regulators, researchers, scientists, public institutions and Governments.
Research limitations – The study uses a short period of time to collect the data. Another limitation for the study is the non-coincidence of the Education System in Poland and Georgia. Also, limitation that may arise is the use of systematic sampling. This process requires a close approximation of a population.

Polish - Georgian survey

Between 20 and 24 June 2022 we hosted doctor Giga Kikoria from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia. The invited lecturer visited the Faculty of Management in the frame of Erasmus+ Staff Mobility. The objectives of mobility are to raise professional qualifications and improve teaching methods by using new textbooks, to exchange experience and ideas between the universities and to exchange experience in the structure and content of the work field. There were also planned practical activities for students.

Content of the teaching programme:

Questionnaire design

Quantitative and Qualitative research techniques

Correlation and regression

Cluster analysis

As an additional profit of this visit, we started research on the topic:

„Student Employment – Entering the Regional Labour Market: An Empirical Analysis in Poland and Georgia”

To archive a sufficiently large number of responses, on Friday, 24th June 2022 an email was sent to all the students of the Management Faculty.

The survey on student employment was short and ANONYMOUS, it took about 2.5 minutes to fill in. Identical research was carried out at the Faculty of Economics and Business of Tbilisi State University.
